County Supervisors Demand Facts in Eureka Mail Processing Center Consolidation
News Channel 3 - The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is requesting the U.S. Postal Service to provide hard facts showing how the closing of the city’s mail processing center would save money.
The board will vote Tuesday to send the letter asking for a financial breakdown of any cost-savings related to consolidating the Eureka Mail Processing Facility with Medford. The letter comes after two county supervisors were denied a meeting with U.S. Postal Services representatives while in Washington D.C. earlier this year.
“We want to see the facts to see if this actually needs to be implemented, because of the displacement of so many of our local workers and the delay in getting our mail out, up to two and three days and going over the 199, which can be sketchy at best during the winter months is almost too much of a burden on the rural Humboldt County and the whole area that the mails sorts through here,” said 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn. “I just think we need to have some strict answers and some definitive answers so the workers here can plan forward.”
