About the Clerk Division

The Clerk Division is the largest division of the American Postal Workers Union and represents the interests of the largest craft in the U.S. Postal Service.

We proudly represent approximately 250,000 postal clerks in post offices large and small across our great country.

Clerks occupy more than 170 different position descriptions as diverse as Post Office Clerk, Level-3 — found in the smallest post offices — and Translator Correspondence Clerk, Level-7 — which exists only in very large offices.

The largest group are Mail Processing Clerk, Level-5, numbering more than 100,000.

Close to 195,000 clerks are full-time regular; approximately 44,000 are part-time flexible, and about 4,000 are part-time regular.
