RPW and ODIS Tests Merged
In a letter [PDF] dated April 23, 2002, the USPS notified the APWU of plans to merge the collection of data for the Domestic Revenue, Pieces, and Weight probability sampling system (RPW), and the Domestic Origin-Destination Information System (ODIS).
This merger projected an annual work-hour savings of approximately 259,000 hours.
The merger affected many Level 6 Data Collection Technicians (DCTs) who had previously performed this work. At the time of the merger there were approximately 1,320 full time DCTs nationwide.
While the loss of 259,000 hours would equate to approximately 125 full-time jobs, the actual reduction of DCTs is expected to be lower because not all these work hours were performed by DCTs; some of the work-hour savings come from areas where these duties were allied to other duty assignments.
Charts show the work-hour changes by District and Area.
