(08/05/10) Kevin Imholte, son of Minneapolis Area Local activists Brenda and Vern Wellman, was presented with a silver medallion on behalf of the APWU for his extraordinary military service. The medallion, which was created and donated by the Nevada State APWU, was presented to Imholte upon his return to the U.S. on June 22 by Minneapolis Area Local President Jerry Sirois. [read more]

(05/29/09) Kevin Imholte, son of Minneapolis Area Local APWU activists Brenda and Vern Wellman, will be awarded the Bronze Star Medal for an act of bravery in Iraq two years ago. Staff Sgt. Imholte was a squad leader for an Army unit whose mission on the evening of May 30, 2007, was to establish an “overwatch position” on a road notorious for the emplacement of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Post Office in Illinois Capital
Named for Long-Time APWU Member
(03/02/09) In honor of a long-time Postal Service worker and APWU member, a facility in Springfield, IL, has been named the “Colonel John H. Wilson, Jr. Post Office Building.” Mr. Wilson, who died last August at the age of 89, was a lifelong Springfield resident who died in the house in which he was born. The measure to rename Springfield’s main post office was passed by unanimous consent in the U.S. Senate on Feb. 12 and affirmed in a House vote on Feb. 24. [read more]
APWU Member Killed in Combat in Iraq

(05/14/07) An APWU member on his second tour of duty in Iraq was killed during combat operations in Anbar Province on May 5. Master Sergeant Kenneth (Kenny) Mack was 42. His family was told that Mr. Mack and a fellow Marine were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Like his late father, Tom Mack, Kenny Mack was an automotive technician at the Fort Worth Vehicle Maintenance Facility. He had joined the Marines not long after graduating from high school in 1984. He began working for the Postal Service in 1988. [read more]
Son of APWU Member Killed in Iraq
(10/20/04) Pvt. Mark Barbret, the son of APWU member Angela Barbret, was killed in Iraq Oct. 14. The 22-year old soldier died after the Humvee he was riding in triggered a bomb that had been placed in the road. He was returning from a mission near the Iraqi city of Ramadi. His mother, Angela Barbret, is an FSM 100 operator at the Royal Oak Processing & Distribution Center near Detroit, and is a member of the 480-481 Area Local. [read more]
