FUNCTION:

Provides semitechnical, clerical support to a programming team. Performs a set of office, and machine procedures designed to reduce the clerical tasks and workload on programming personnel and allow them to be more efficient by concentrating on the structure and content of computer programs. Provides additional record keeping functions associated with programming to maintain historical and productivity data for programming projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

This section is composed of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) which are required to satisfactorily perform the tasks of the position. Applicants must demonstrate that they possess a sufficient level of each KSA, to include at least minimum competency for senior-qualified positions to enable them to perform these tasks satisfactorily. Applicants demonstrate these levels by describing examples of experience, education, or training, any of which may be non-postal. Ratings are based on the demonstration of the level of possession of each of the KSAs. Failure to demonstrate any KSA is disqualifying.

  1. Knowledge of data processing procedures and technical vocabulary sufficient to understand and respond to programmer service requests.

  2. Ability to maintain records and files sufficient to place, retrieve, and replace in a filing system (computer or manual) computer programs, documents, correspondence, and forms pertinent to the work performed; and to provide control of incoming and outgoing materials.

  3. Ability to work with others sufficient to answer questions, to resolve conflicts, and to maintain working relationships, such as in a programming team.

  4. Ability to inspect work such as system documentation for compliance with accepted data processing standards.

  5. Ability to work without supervision sufficient to work to perform the duties of the position in compliance with standard office and computer procedures.

  6. Ability to perform under pressure sufficient to make decisions, speak calmly under duress, and meet predetermined deadlines.

  7. Ability to use written reference materials sufficient to read, comprehend, and interpret text material such as handbooks, technical manuals, and operating guidelines in order to use relevant information and convey information to others.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to key data on a computer terminal at a rate of 25 correct lines within five minutes. This must be demonstrated by successful completion of Postal Service Test 714 at the low standard. Certificates of proficiency are not acceptable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position. Vision of 20/40 (Snellen) in one eye and ability to read without strain printed material the size of type-written characters are required; corrective lenses are permitted. Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades is desirable. Ability to hear the conversational voice is required; hearing aids are permitted.
