Best Organized Locals
The APWU Organization Department would like to recognize the “Best Organized Locals” by membership size for the 2012 Biennial Award. Top in their category are:
Over 1,000 Members: Broward County Area Local (95%)
500-999 Members: Buffalo Local (97%)
200-499 Members: Philadelphia BMC (98%)
100-199 Members: Manasota Locall (97%)
50-99 Members: Fall River Local (98%)
25-49 Members: Rolla Area Local (100%)
On a nationwide basis, 82% of eligible postal employees are members of the APWU.
The founder and first president of the American Federation of Labor (AFL), Samuel Gompers once said, “You can’t do it unless you organize.” How true that statement still is today!
Congratulations to the locals that have maintained such high levels of membership at a time when the Postal Service is downsizing and minimal hiring is going on. It takes dedication and hard work to continue to approach those non-members and get them to join.
I challenge the locals to beat their previous record. Without a strong membership we will struggle to survive. We must continue to fight the good fight not only for us but for everyone. When unions do well, so does the rest of America.
