Ask the President Question: Did the Postal Service really give our payroll records to the newspapers? This has many people upset. George, Chicago Local President Burrus: Many APWU members have expressed concern about Web sites that list the earnings of postal employees. The typical assumption is that the information was provided by the Postal Service. I have spoken with headquarters-level postal officials and have been assured that management has no relationship with the sponsors of the Web sites and has not released salary information for the purpose of having it published on the Internet. Postal officials surmise that the posted information is retrievable through a Freedom of Information request and that any legitimate entity willing to pay the required fee has access to any and all public information maintained by a government agency.
