Why Obama?
|
On Nov. 4, 2008, American voters will have an historic opportunity to change the direction of our country by electing a president who will put the interests of working families and Main Street ahead of the well-to-do and Wall Street.
For the past eight years, the Bush Administration has given big tax cuts to the wealthy and granted the wishes of special interests while living standards have declined for the rest of us:
Meanwhile, the nation remains mired in two wars in the Middle East, and we continue to destroy natural resources at an alarming rate.
John McCain has pledged to continue the Bush Administration's policies for the economy, foreign affairs and the environment.
Barack Obama has pledged to stop the nation's economic decline and restore our standing around the globe.
Barack Obama supports trade policies that put America's workers first. He has pledged to address our nation's healthcare and retirement crises. He will invest in our nation and our future and help create an economy that works for all. He will protect our national security, restore our nation's reputation abroad, and end the war in Iraq in a proper and respectful manner.
During his years of public life, Senator Obama has stood staunchly with union movement. He has stood up for working families in 98 percent of the votes he has cast as a legislator. (Senator McCain's record, by comparison, is only 16 percent. )
Obama supports the Employee Free Choice Act, which would give American workers greater freedom to make their own choices about joining unions. EFCA would stiffen penalties for harassment, intimidation, and other illegal tactics employers often use to prevent workers from having a voice at work and being able to bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Of the two candidates for U.S. president, there is no comparison. Senator Obama deserves our full, united and unwavering support.
