Pay Raise Set for Nov. 17

11/01/2012 - APWU-represented postal employees will receive an increase in their annual salaries effective Nov. 17 — the first in three years.

ALSO: President Cliff Guffey is asking APWU members to contribute to relief efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The colossal storm devastated communities along the East Coast and took the lives of more than 70 people, including Leonard Montalto, an officer of the Staten Island Local APWU.

Arbitrator Rules Tour 1 Casuals May Work After 5 a.m.

12/03/2008 - In a national-level award, Arbitrator Shyam Das has ruled that Tour 1 casuals may continue to work past 5 a.m., concluding that the intent of the 2006-2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement is to prevent management from assigning casuals starting times between the hours of 5 a.m. and noon.

The dispute arose following negotiations for the 2006-2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement, which included a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the use of supplemental work-force employees and the conversion of Clerk Craft Part-Time Flexibles.

Uniform Allowances Increases

11/25/2008 - APWU-represented employees are eligible for a 2.5 percent increase in uniform and work clothes allowances effective on their “allowance anniversary dates” beginning Nov. 21, in accordance with the 2006-2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Increases also were allotted in 2006 and 2007; under the terms of the contract an additional increase will be awarded in 2009.

Employees who are eligible for Type 1 uniforms (first-year amount) will receive an allowance of $446 per year, up from $435; employees eligible for Type 2 uniforms (first-year amount) will receive an allowance of $173, increased from $169.

Penalty Overtime, Casual Exception Periods Set

10/20/2008 - The annual periods during which penalty overtime regulations and the limit on the number of casuals are not applicable have been announced.

As referenced in Article 8, Sections 4 and 5 of the National Agreement, there are four consecutive service weeks each year during which penalty overtime regulations are not applicable. This year, the period begins Dec. 6, 2008, (the first day of Week 2 of Pay Period 26-08), and ends Jan. 2, 2009, (the last day of Week 1 of PP 1-09).

Delegates Focus on Bargaining Priorities

More than 100 delegates stayed late Monday
to hear the report on AFL-CIO affiliation. 

APWU delegates identified negotiating priorities Aug. 19, when they considered resolutions submitted to the union’s Labor-Management Committee. “The biggest threat to the members of APWU is the erosion of jobs,” Resolution 171-C declared, and the APWU must “develop and negotiate clear and concise contractual language to eliminate and reverse” the trend.
