09/16/2014 - The four postal unions are standing together at the national, state and local level to fight the Postmaster General’s plans to again slash the mail processing network, beginning in January. Eighty-two facilities are slated for closure, and service will be degraded further.
08/25/2014 - Career employees represented by the APWU will receive a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of $686 per year in September 2014, in accordance with the 2010-2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The raise is the result of an increase in the consumer price index (CPI-W). The effective date is Sept. 6, 2014 (Pay Period 20-2014, Pay Date Sept. 26, 2014).
Agreement Breaks ‘Pattern’ Set in 2010 Negotiations
08/12/2014 - APWU members in the IT-Accounting Services Centers (AS) ratified a new Collective Bargaining Agreement by a vote of 592 to 38 in voting that ended Aug. 7, Support Services Director Steve Brooks has announced.
The new agreement, which covers approximately 1,100 employees, was signed on Aug. 8 and took effect the following day; it expires Jan. 20, 2016.
07/08/2014 - The APWU and USPS have reached a tentative agreement on a contract for employees in the IT and Accounting Services (AS) units. Union members will have the opportunity to vote to ratify or reject the agreement. Details of the ratification process are expected to be announced July 9.
Budget Deal Announced:
12/11/2013 - A proposed budget deal announced late on Dec. 10 would require postal and federal workers hired after Dec. 31, 2013, to pay more toward their retirement benefits.
11/01/2013 - The Social Security Administration has announced a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of 1.5 percent for federal and postal retirees. The increase will be reflected in the January 2014 annuity and will apply to retirees covered by both the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).
08/15/2013 - Career APWU members will receive a $937 annual increase in pay in September, APWU President Cliff Guffey has announced. “This substantial raise is the result of the 2010-2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement, which preserved cost-of-living adjustments for our members,” he said.
ALSO: The APWU won a major victory Aug. 13 when Arbitrator Shyam Das issued a ruling that will help the union fight subcontracting, President Cliff Guffey has announced. Das ruled that locals must be notified when management makes a decision at the local, district or area level to contract out craft work.

ALSO: APWU President Cliff Guffey is calling on union members to ask their senators and representatives to co-sponsor a pair of postal reform bills that were introduced in the House and Senate on Feb. 13.
02/04/2013 - The APWU is encouraging retirees to meet with members of Congress in their home districts during Lobby Week, Feb. 18-22, to discuss protecting Cost-of-Living Adjustments, Social Security, Medicare and other issues of concern to seniors. Lobby Week is sponsored by the Alliance for Retired Americans, which the APWU Retirees Department is affiliated with.
11/01/2012 - APWU-represented postal employees will receive an increase in their annual salaries effective Nov. 17 — the first in three years.
ALSO: President Cliff Guffey is asking APWU members to contribute to relief efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The colossal storm devastated communities along the East Coast and took the lives of more than 70 people, including Leonard Montalto, an officer of the Staten Island Local APWU.
