Retirees COLAs Reflected In January Checks

01/02/2008 - Cost-of-Living Adjustments for retirees, which took effect Dec. 1, 2007, will be reflected in annuity payments dated Jan. 2, 2008. 

CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) annuitants who have received benefits for at least a year received an increase of 2.3 percent; FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) annuitants who have received benefits for at least a year received an increase of 2 percent.

COLA Raise Shows Value of a Union Contract

08/29/2007 - The $686 salary increase that will be reflected in APWU members’ paychecks Sept. 21 demonstrates the ongoing value of the union contract, said APWU President William Burrus. “With the one-level upgrade for all APWU-represented positions in February,” he added, “the negotiated raises will amount to approximately four percent over a period of five months.”

Latest CPI Rise Will Yield $686 Annual Increase

08/15/2007 - Even with the Consumer Price Index falling slightly in July, the latest Cost-Of-Living Adjustment under the National Agreement will give APWU-craft employees an annual raise of $686. 

July was the last month of the second six-month COLA measuring period in the 2006-2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The COLA will be effective Sept. 1, and will be reflected in Sept. 21 paychecks (Pay Period 19-07). The adjustment will amount to a 33 cents per hour increase, or $26.40 per pay period.

APWU, USPS Reach Tentative Agreement Covering Operating Services Workers

Ratification Vote Set for July 5

07/02/2007 - The APWU and the USPS have reached a tentative agreement covering Operating Services workers, which is modeled on the Collective Bargaining Agreement for employees in the Clerk, Maintenance and Motor Vehicle Crafts. If ratified, the tentative agreement will cover 90 employees at USPS Headquarters in Washington, DC, and at a facility in nearby Merrifield, VA. A ratification vote will take place on July 5, 2007.

Union Members to Vote on Ratification

12/07/2006 - The APWU Rank-and-File Bargaining Advisory Committee voted unanimously to approve the union’s tentative 2006 Collective Bargaining Agreement on Dec. 7 at a meeting in Washington, DC. The agreement will be sent to union members for a ratification vote, which the committee will supervise. 

The four-year tentative agreement provides for two wage increases and an upgrade for all APWU-represented employees, in addition to Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLAs) twice per year.

12/07/2006 - The APWU Rank-and-File Bargaining Advisory Committee voted unanimously on Dec. 7 to approve the union’s tentative 2006 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The agreement will be sent to union members for a ratification vote, which the committee will supervise. 

The four-year tentative agreement provides for two wage increases and an upgrade for all APWU-represented employees. There will be two Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLAs) each year.

Local Negotiations Period Set

Contract Extension Establishes 60-Day Window for Bargaining

08/17/2005 - As a result of the ratification of the contract extension, local unions and management will have an opportunity to negotiate changes to local agreements during the 60-day period from Oct. 3 through Dec. 1, 2005, APWU President William Burrus has announced.

Under the terms of the contract extension, existing local memorandums of understanding will remain in effect during any discussions, and can be changed only upon mutual agreement. Agreements may take effect upon the close of negotiations or at any date agreed to by the local parties.

06/28/2005 - APWU President William Burrus announced June 28 that the union and the USPS have reached a tentative agreement on a one-year extension of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which is due to expire Nov. 20.
