March 2008
Dear Postal Employee:
The responsibilities of work and home often make us feel like we are being pulled in too many directions — helping our children, looking after grandkids, or caring for elderly parents, while working and running a household. And these responsibilities often seem to fall disproportionately on women. The stress takes a toll, but — somehow — working women manage to get it done.
What are the tools that help us “keep it together?” Family & Medical Leave, which gives us the right to take time from work to care for sick family members; the opportunity to use sick leave for dependent care; the right to bid on a schedule that best fits our routine; vacations; job security, and most important — a wage that supports our lifestyle. These and other benefits make our hectic lives just a little easier.
Where do these rights and benefits come from? The American Postal Workers Union — it’s as simple as that.
And that’s why we’re asking you to join. We need you — and you need us. March, Women’s History Month, is a great time to sign up.
Women activists play a powerful role in the APWU, occupying leadership positions and advancing the cause of women while we fight to make life better for all postal workers.
But we can’t do it without you. The decisions we make and the actions we take affect you in a fundamental way: They determine your pay and benefits and the atmosphere at work. They influence the quality of your life.
We need your voice. So join the American Postal Workers Union today. Please complete an enrollment form [PDF] and return it to the APWU Organization Department at 1300 L St., NW, Washington, DC 20005.
Join the APWU: We’re Your Union!
