Postal Relief Fund to Assist
Terrorist Attack Victims
Burrus Update #48, September 18, 2001
The American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, joins with the entire American community in expressing our deep shock and sorrow for the thousands of innocent people killed or injured in the September 11 terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, and the hijacked airplane that crashed in Pennsylvania.
We have not received reports of any injuries or deaths of postal employees, but our brothers and sisters from other unions have been directly affected by the senseless tragedy. The reports indicate that nearly 200 Firefighters; more than 100 Police Officers; approximately 240 Government Employees; and nearly 100 Hotel and Restaurant Employees are missing or dead. Also included among those killed are victims from the Teachers; the Service Employees; Flight Attendants; Laborers; Communications Workers; State, County and Municipal Employees; Airline Pilots; and members of the Machinists union.
APWU has made a generous donation to the AFL-CIO's Union Community Fund to provide assistance to the victims and their families.
Any member wishing to make a direct donation may visit the Postal Employees' Relief Fund Web Site www.postalrelief.org and make a contribution using Visa, Master Card or American Express. Designate the specific Fund to which you wish to contribute bygoing to the donation page; and under AProgram, select and click on Terrorist Attack Victims. Postal employees may also make a donation on the site to the Postal Employees Relief Fund, CFC #0183, as the Combined Federal Campaign kickoffs are now underway nationwide.
