William Burrus Re-Elected APWU President
Union Leader to Begin His Third Term

In balloting that ended Oct. 5, William Burrus was re-elected to his third term as president of the American Postal Workers Union, receiving more than 77 percent of the votes cast and capturing a majority in every state.

Burrus was first elected APWU president in 2001, becoming the first African-American national union president elected directly by union members. He served as the APWU Executive Vice President from 1980 until his election as president. From 1974 to 1980, he served as President of the Cleveland Area Local.

The APWU represents more than 280,000 clerk, maintenance, and motor vehicle employees working in 37,000 facilities of the U.S. Postal Service.

Burrus will be sworn in on Nov. 8, along with 84 other union officers.
