APWU Ballot Deadline Extended

The following open letter has been mailed to APWU active and retired members, and official candidates for the APWU 2001 National Officers Election:

September 19, 2001

RE: Change of Deadline Date For Returning Ballots from Oct. 5 to Oct. 12.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, an act of terrorism occurred in the Washington, DC area and in New York City.  This resulted in disruption of postal operations and untimely delay of ballots being received by members throughout the country.

The APWU 2001 Election Committee discussed and voted to change the deadline date for ballots to be returned by members of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO and the APWU Retirees Department to the designated post office boxes from 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct.. 5 to:

2:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2001

LOCAL OFFICERS:  Kindly do NOT request duplicate ballots for members who have not received them until after Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Further, due to the lack of space available for this time period, it is necessary to change the location for tallying the ballots from the Ramada Inn in New Carrollton, MD, to:

RAMADA INN
901 DUAL HIGHWAY
HAGERSTOWN, MD   21740
PHONE: (301) 733-5100

We welcome your understanding on this change which will afford all APWU active and retired members the fullest opportunity to vote in this APWU National Officers Election.

Support the Delta Flight Attendants

They're Fighting for a Union

Imagine going to work one day and learning that the USPS had unilaterally cut your wages. Or think about the effect on your family if the Postal Service altered your health insurance benefits, cut your vacation or made other unilateral changes to your pay, benefits and working conditions.

It can't happen to you because you work under a collective bargaining agreement. But it is happening with frightening regularity to more than 22,000 flight attendants who work at Delta Airlines.

Now, the flight attendants have had enough. Despite an illegal, union-busting campaign, they are fighting back. Soon, they will have a chance to vote to become part of the Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO, and win a contract to protect their pay, their benefits and their jobs.

You can help the Delta flight attendants. The next time you fly on Delta, let the flight attendants know that over 13 million working people across the country support their fight for a contract. Share with them the power we have when workers stand together to improve our jobs.

If you would like more information on the Delta campaign, visit www.deltaafa.org on the Internet or call 1-888-997-8866.
