Final Deliberations of the 2006 Convention
APWU 18th Biennial Convention News Bulletin #5, Aug. 21, 2006
On the final day of the APWU 18th Biennial Convention, delegates approved a resolution outlining the union’s priorities for contract negotiations. They include:
(In earlier convention action, delegates approved a resolution urging the union’s national leaders to “pursue all options available” to resolve craft jurisdictional disputes.)
In other convention action, delegates amended two resolutions of the Formal Resolutions Committee: Delegates approved the addition of the word “legal” to a resolution endorsing human rights for all and self-determination for immigrants. The final wording adopted by the convention calls for the APWU to “recognize and support human and civil rights for all people and self-determination for legal immigrants.”
A resolution opposing the War in Iraq was amended to call for the withdrawal of U.S. troops by March 2007.
Conventioneers also adopted the recommendations of numerous committees, including Appeals, Legislative, Clerk, Maintenance, Motor Vehicle, and Safety and Health.
Credentials Committee Report As presented by Chairperson Geneva Greenlee of the Muncie (IN) Area Local, the preliminary report of the APWU Credentials Committee for Friday, Aug. 18, is as follows: The 18th Biennial Convention’s 2,892 delegates represent 419 locals, 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Also in attendance are 84 national officers and four Retirees Department delegates. |
