APWU Creates ‘Message Board’
For Katrina-Impacted Members
APWU Web News Article #62-05, Nov. 9, 2005
The APWU has established a new communication feature for union members impacted by Hurricane Katrina. The APWU Katrina Forum is an electronic message board where Katrina employees can locate co-workers; tell friends where they are and how they are doing, and share news and comments about their post-hurricane work lives. The Web address is: www.apwukatrinaforum.org.
How to Post Messages
Only APWU members are permitted to post messages on the board. To post, you must register. To do so, click on the Register button at the top of the screen, on the right.
A new screen will appear, with questions you must respond to. Go to “Choose username” in the middle of the screen and type your user name. Then provide your e-mail address; choose a password, and verify your password. We suggest you select “Hide email address” in order to avoid receiving unsolicited messages. You must also read the registration agreement and select “I Agree,” before clicking the Register button.
You will receive an e-mail saying that you have applied. You will then receive an e-mail requesting your last name (as it appears on your pay stub), and the last four digits of your Social Security number or your employee i.d. number. This information will be used to verify that you are an APWU member. Once your membership has been confirmed, you will receive an e-mail activating your account. Registration requests will be monitored periodically during regular business hours.
The APWU Katrina Forum is a “moderated” board. This does not mean APWU agrees with or vouches for the content; it simply means that we review posting for potentially libelous, slanderous, obscene, or other objectionable content. Postings that violate the terms of service as described in the registration agreement will be deleted.
Please read the registration agreement carefully, as it contains additional guidelines and other important information.
