A committee of union representatives has begun sorting through hundreds of proposals submitted by APWU state and local organizations for consideration by delegates to the 18th Biennial National Convention.
The convention’s Screening Committee met in Washington, DC, on June 19 to examine resolutions covering a wide array of subjects. By the time it adjourns on June 23, the panel will have referred approximately 500 resolutions to various committees that will make recommendations for or against adoption at the convention.
Resolutions considered at APWU conventions help determine the union’s goals in contract negotiations and in the political arena, as well as determine policies to help the APWU better serve its members. APWU biennial conventions are the union’s highest decision-making body.
The screening committee makes sure resolutions are reviewed by the appropriate committees. It also eliminates repetitive resolutions and consolidates resolutions containing the same subject matter.
