Scholarship Application Deadline: March 16
APWU Web News Article #017-09, Feb. 17, 2009
The deadline for applications for college scholarships for the children and grandchildren of APWU members is rapidly approaching: March 16 is the cutoff for high school seniors who plan to pursue a four-year academic college course or a three-year course in vocational studies.
The APWU awards 10 scholarships to high school seniors each year – five academic scholarships and five vocational scholarships.
The scholarships are available to children or grandchildren of current, retired, or deceased APWU members. The 10 award recipients are selected by an independent selection committee of labor educators.
The E.C. Hallbeck Memorial Scholarship awards recipients $4,000 to apply towards their four-year college tuition. Vocational Scholarship winners receive up to $3,000 for specialized training in such fields as culinary arts, medical or dental assistant, electrician, real estate, auto mechanic, certified IT/computer education, cosmetology, or massage therapy, etc.
The 2009 APWU Scholarship rules and application form are available at www.apwu.org/dept/sec-treas/stscholarships.htm. For further information or to receive an application by mail, call the Secretary-Treasurer's office at 202-842-4215.
The APWU Scholarships are funded by donations. If you are interested in being part of this generosity, please send a check or money order to “APWU Scholarship Fund,” 1300 L St. NW, Washington, D.C., 20005. This tax-deductible donation may specify “Hallbeck” or “Vocational.”
