EEOC Decision is Final:

National Reassessment Program Discriminated Against Injured Workers

03/28/2018 - The time is now for all current and former permanent-rehabilitation and limited-duty postal employees who were subjected to the USPS National Reassessment Process (NRP) between May 5, 2006 and July 1, 2011 to file a timely claim with the Postal Service to seek monetary damages and other relief. The Postal Service has exhausted all of its administrative appeals in the class action discrimination complaint, McConnell v. USPS.

April Burger, a 31-year member of the Jefferson City Local (MO) and the local’s secretary-treasurer, was unanimously chosen as 2017 Acceptance Agent of the Year for the Department of State’s (DOS) National Awards Program for Passport Acceptance Facilities and Agents. She was honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 29.

Attend a Pre-Convention Workshop

03/27/2018 - The Research & Education Department will sponsor the APWU’s 16th Educational Conference, a National Convention event that provides union members with a wealth of information to take home to their local and state organizations. Twenty-eight workshops will be offered on Friday, Aug. 17... All APWU members are welcome and encouraged to sign-up online by the early registration deadline of Friday, Aug. 3. This deadline is firm for participants with special needs: If you need a sign interpreter, for example, you must register by Aug. 3. Other participants may try to sign up for workshops after they arrive in Pittsburgh; however, late registrants will have a limited choice of workshops and will not receive certificates.

New Postal Reform Legislation Introduced in the Senate

03/23/2018 - On March 22, The Postal Service Reform Act of 2018 (S. 2629) was introduced in the U.S. Senate. The APWU recognizes the efforts of the four bi-partisan Senators who worked to craft and co-sponsor the proposed legislation - Tom Carper (D-DE), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO). “The APWU appreciates their efforts to achieve postal legislative reform that is fair to the APWU members, postal workers in general, the public Postal Service and postal customers,” said Legislative & Political Director Judy Beard.

Arbitration Advocacy Training Kicks Off

03/22/2018 - The APWU Arbitration Advocacy Training program will be Sunday, June 3 - Sunday, June 10. It is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of the techniques needed to effectively prepare a case for arbitration. Participants should plan to arrive at the hotel, Hilton Hotel & Meeting Center, 100 W Glenoaks Blvd, Glendale, CA 91202, on Sunday, June 3 because classes start promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning. A graduation dinner will be held on Saturday evening. No classes will be held on Sunday, June 10. The curriculum includes: Introduction to Arbitration; Preparing the Case; Identifying and Framing Issues; Threshold Issues; Exhibits and Stipulations; Opening and Closing Statements; Rules of Evidence; Objections, and Direct and Cross Examinations.

USPS Safety Ambassador Program

03/16/2018 - The APWU was informed on October 26, 2017 of the Postal Service’s intent to roll out a new program called the Safety Ambassador Program. The Postal Service intends to replace the safety captain program, and any other local safety programs, with this “standardized” and nationally controlled program. The American Postal Workers Union does not support, agree with, or endorse this program.
