10/04/2007 - Ballots for the APWU election of national officers will be counted beginning on Oct. 5, and preliminary results will be posted on the union's Web site, www.apwu.org, as soon as they become available, Secretary-Treasurer Terry Stapleton has announced. The unofficial tallies will be updated frequently.
10/01/2007 - The National Postal Professional Nurses-APWU and the Postal Service agreed on Sept. 28 to extend contract talks until Oct. 12. During negotiations held on Sept. 18, 24, 26 and 27, the union presented proposals — including an economic package — and answered questions from the Postal Service.
09/26/2007 - Time is running short for members who have yet to vote in the APWU National Officers election. Ballots were mailed Sept. 12-15, and must be returned to and received in the designated post office box by 2 p.m. (Eastern Time), Oct. 5.
A small number of APWU members have reported that their completed ballots were returned to them. If you have already voted and your ballot is sent back to you, please draw an “X” through your return address and bar code, and mail the ballot again.
09/19/2007 - Despite losing a union-representation election, an APWU-led organizing committee will press on in its campaign for workers’ rights at a sorting facility just outside of Allentown, PA.
09/18/2007 - APWU members who enroll in the Consumer Driven Health Plan will pay much lower premiums for health insurance in 2008, plan administrators announced Sept. 18. Union members will pay just $7.77 per pay period for self-only coverage, and $17.48 for self-and-family coverage next year.
The new rates represent a reduction of $10.63 and $23.92 respectively, per pay period from 2007 fees.
09/17/2007 - A Louisiana appeals court has overturned the aggravated battery conviction of Mychal Bell, the lead defendant in the Jena 6 six racially-charged incident. “This decision is welcome,” said APWU President William Burrus, “but it does not resolve the community conflict or the status of the children who continue under indictment and face serious charges.
09/14/2007 - The American Postal Workers Union will join with other progressive forces at a demonstration in Jena, LA, to protest the excessively disparate punishment of six African-American high school students who were embroiled in a racially tinged altercation.
09/12/2007 - Ballots for the 2007 Election of APWU National Officers are being mailed Wednesday, Sept. 12, to Saturday, Sept. 15. Every member in good standing as of June 15, 2007, will receive a ballot.
09/10/2007 - The APWU and USPS announced Sept. 10 that they have renewed their commitment to the Voluntary Protection Program, which is designed to improve safety and health at postal facilities and to reduce accidents and injuries. In an Aug. 30 agreement, the union and management agreed to extend the process for three years.

09/07/2007 - Although the Postal Service employs large numbers of veterans, not enough is being done to help qualified veterans secure jobs with the agency, APWU Executive Vice President Cliff Guffey told a House panel during testimony on Sept. 6.
