The Clerk Craft was successful in a recent arbitration regarding the USPS’s handling of the Sales Retention Team (SRT) program. The Postal Service blatantly violated the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in utilizing injured employees, mostly carriers, to staff the Sales Retention Teams, without first posting the jobs for bid in the Clerk Craft.
05/03/2016 - The Postal Service has notified the APWU that approximately 200 corrections are outstanding from among more than 13,000 employees who were eligible for a portion of a $56 million monetary settlement of grievances protesting managerial personnel performing Clerk Craft duties in small offices.

At the end of the summer, the clerk division announced the criteria for distributing the $56 million monetary portion of the settlement that resolved a decades-long dispute over postmasters and supervisors in small offices performing Clerk Craft work.
The Dec. 5, 2014, settlement, which is the biggest monetary awards in the union’s history, established a much simpler method for addressing such infractions in the future. We hope and expect that this will drastically reduce incidences of postmasters and supervisors performing Clerk Craft work.
08/31/2015 - In a conference call with local and state presidents, the APWU’s Clerk Division officers outlined the criteria for distributing the $56 million lump-sum penalty portion of the settlement that resolves a decades-long dispute over postmasters and supervisors in small offices performing Clerk Craft work.
08/21/2012 - In an inspirational speech Aug. 19, Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-IL) urged union members to fight back against “evil-doers” who would destroy the Postal Service and send the nation back to a dark time when most workers had no rights and few prospects for achieving the American Dream.
12/13/2011 - The Postal Service has announced a five-month moratorium on the closure of post offices and mail processing facilities, in response to a request from 22 senators.
ALSO: An arbitration hearing began on Dec. 13, 2011, on the first two of several disputes that arose when management incorrectly implemented new provisions of the 2010-2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
11/16/2011 - A bill that would destroy the Postal Service as we know it was approved by a key congressional committee on Oct. 13, and could come up for a vote in the full House at any time.
ALSO: The Collective Bargaining Agreement obligates the Postal Service to make “every effort” to create desirable duty assignments from “all available work hours for career employees” when management posts full-time Clerk Craft assignments for bid, Clerk Craft Director Rob Strunk is reminding union members.
