11/30/2015 - Members of the Western PA Postal Workers Solidarity Committee met with Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald on Nov. 20 to discuss the dirty deal between the U.S. Postal Service and Staples. “Fitzgerald listened to our concerns and offered his support,” reports Joe Radovich of the Pittsburgh Metro Area Local APWU.
10/10/2014 - As the one-year anniversary of the Postal Service’s no-bid deal with Staples approaches, the ‘Don’t Buy Staples’ movement is continuing to grow. The USPS and Staples are upping the ante as well: On Oct. 7 management notified the APWU that it plans to expand the program to all 1,500 Staples stores in the U.S.
“It’s no surprise that Staples and postal management are making a last-ditch effort to salvage this disastrous program,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein.
01/23/2014 - Members of Pittsburgh Metro Area Local paid visits to the three largest Staples stores near Pittsburgh on Jan. 22 to protest the retail supply chain’s decision to open postal retail units staffed by non-USPS employees.
01/15/2014 - The North Jersey Area Local sent a delegation to the Staples store in Totowa on Jan. 14 to express the union’s displeasure with the pilot that establishes postal counters in more than 80 stores in four areas — California, Atlanta, Central Massachusetts and Pittsburgh.
