During and after the 2016 Election, the term “fake news” became widely used in American political conversations. Politifact.com, a fact-checking website, defines fake news as, “made-up stuff, masterfully manipulated to look like credible journalistic reports that are easily spread online to large audiences willing to believe the fictions and spread the word.”

Protesting Health Care Bill 

Members of the Portland Oregon Area Local attended a rally protesting Republican health care legislation on July 6. At rallies all over the country, people protested against the drastic bill that would leave millions uninsured with the slogan, “Kill the bill, don’t kill us.”

Early Registration for All Craft Conference & Retirees Conference Extended to Sept. 8

08/18/2017 - Early registration for the All Craft Conference and the Retirees Conference has been extended until September 8, 2017.  The cost is $85 for the All Craft Conference and $40 for the Retirees Conference.  After September 8, 2017, the cost for the All Craft Conference is $135 and $45 for the Retirees Conference.

Union Administration Training for the Eastern & Northeast Regions will take place from May 20 through May 26, 2017 at the Maritime Institute Hotel & Conference Center in Linthicum Heights, MD.

Central & Western Regions

Union Administration Training for the Central & Western Regions will take place from July 16 through July 22, 2017 at the Westin Southfield Detroit Hotel in Southfield, MI.

Moving Forward

We all begin a new year with hopes for improvements on the past year. Even if the past year was a really great one, for instance, one in which the Cubs won the World Series. It is human nature to always want the next one to be better. This year, I think it is safe to say we are all waiting and watching what our new President-elect will do next.

2017 Officer’s Fiduciary Responsibility & QuickBooks Training

12/14/2016 - The Secretary-Treasurer’s Department will be hosting an Officer’s Fiduciary Responsibility & QuickBooks Training in Atlanta, GA from March 9-11, 2017. 

It will take place at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly at 1-800-937-8461 or on-line. The deadline for hotel reservations is Feb. 8, 2017.  The hotel price is $148.00 per night plus taxes and fees.

Stand Up for Safe Jobs!

Workers Memorial Day is April 28

04/19/2016 - The labor movement will observe Workers Memorial Day on Thursday, April 28, to commemorate those who have been killed or injured on the job and to revitalize the fight for workplace safety. The event coincides with the anniversary of the passage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), which promises every worker the right to safe working conditions.
