01/24/2014 - On a recent winter morning, members of the Youngstown Ohio Area Local visited a Staples outlet in New Castle, PA to protest the office supply company's efforts to open postal retail units staffed by non-USPS employees.
01/16/2014 - Postal workers in Springfield IL delivered a letter to the city’s Staples franchise on Jan. 14 voicing opposition to the retail chain’s plans for opening pilot postal retail units staffed by non-USPS employees in more than 80 Staple stores.
09/24/2013 - Members of the APWU Saint Louis Gateway Area Local visited with staff for U.S. senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) to urge the lawmakers to support the Postal Service Protection Act (S. 316) — and to oppose a postal reform bill (S. 1486) introduced by senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Tom Coburn (R-OK).
02/11/2013 - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited the USPS for unsafe working conditions following the death of mechanic Steny Wing Hoi Yu, who died July 27 from injuries he sustained while working at the Detroit NDC.
02/07/2013 - The APWU and USPS have reached an agreement regarding management’s plan to transfer work currently being performed by more than 330 TACS Clerks in locations across the country to a single location in Eagan, MN. In August, the USPS notified the union of plans to reassign the Time and Attendance Collection System work to members of the ITASC (Information Technology Accounting Service Center) bargaining unit at the Midwest facility.
02/24/2012 - Clerk Craft National Business Agent Tom Maier has been appointed to serve as the union’s Legislative and Political Assistant Director. He replaces Steve Albanese, who retired at the end of 2011.

Postal employees whose property was damaged or destroyed due to recent flooding in Iowa and other parts of the Midwest are eligible to apply for grants from the Postal Employees Relief Fund, APWU President William Burrus has reminded union members.
PERF provides financial assistance to postal employees and retirees who have suffered substantial losses as a result of natural disasters or home fires if they are not reimbursed by insurance or other grants. Supported and administered by the unions and the Postal Service, PERF is a tax-exempt charitable organization that is funded through donations from postal employees.
