09/10/2014 - Opponents of a no-bid deal between Staples and the USPS are taking the fight to the Massachusetts-based company’s home turf. In August, postal workers, teachers and customers staged rallies in and around Boston, and they’re planning to conduct continuing protests in the region. The APWU is also reaching out to workers and students at Harvard, whose president, Drew Faust, sits on Staples’ board of directors.
09/06/2014 - Connecticut Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy condemned USPS plans to consolidate two Processing and Distribution Centers in the state at a press conference on Aug. 27 and urged Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe to agree to a one-year moratorium on 82 plant consolidations that are scheduled to begin in January. The senators were joined at the press conference by about 50 APWU members who chanted, “The U.S. Mail is Not for Sale.”
07/01/2014 - The APWU won an important arbitration award on June 24, when Arbitrator Stephen B. Goldberg ruled that the Postal Service must determine – prior to excessing employees across craft lines – that the employees meet the minimum qualifications for the new position.

06/30/2014 - The APWU today denounced plans by the Postal Service to resume the closure and consolidation of up to 82 mail processing plants beginning in January 2015.
“This is a direct assault on service to the people of the country, on postal workers and on the Postal Service’s own network,” said union President Mark Dimondstein. The closure of the plants will require the USPS to degrade service standards and delay mail.
“We need a Postmaster General who will champion the Postal Service. Instead, PMG Donahoe is on a rampage to destroy it,” he said
New Hampshire State Employees’ Association, National Nurses United Endorse ‘Don’t Buy Staples’ Campaign
06/12/2014 - As APWU members spread the word about the ‘Don’t Buy Staples’ campaign to other labor organizations and friends, the result of their hard work is paying off.
Two additional organizations have joined the movement against the privatization of USPS retail services since yesterday.

01/24/2014 - The Postal Service announced in the Federal Register on Jan. 24 that it is postponing Phase 2 of its latest mail processing consolidation plan, which was slated to begin on Feb. 1.
12/13/2013 - The APWU Maintenance Division Council has unanimously approved the appointment by Director Steve Raymer of Christopher Howe as Maintenance Craft National Business Agent for the Northeast Region. The appointment will be effective Jan. 1, 2014.
12/09/2013 - Richard H. Logan, National Business Agent for the Maintenance Craft, passed away on Dec. 5. He was 59.
