The 1.3 percent raise established in the 2006-2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement will be implemented on March 3, 2007, and will result in a corresponding dues increase, in accordance with Article 16, Section 2(a) of the APWU Constitution and Bylaws. The raises will be paid retroactively to Nov. 25, 2006, but the effective date of the retroactive paycheck and retroactive dues increase has not been announced. Once we receive that information, we will post it on the union’s Web site, www.apwu.org.

The dues increase will be 68 cents per member per pay period for career employees and 42 cents per member per pay period for Transitional Employees.

Forty-three cents of the 68-cent increase will go to career employees’ locals, 20 cents will go to the national union’s general fund, and five cents will go the union’s private-sector organizing fund. The new National Per Capita Tax for career employees will be $7.80 per member per pay period, plus an additional 52 cents for the Organizing Fund. Therefore, a total of $8.32 will be withheld for National Per Capita Tax and the Organizing Fund.

Dues for Transitional Employees will be increased by 42 cents, with a 26-cent increase for the locals, a 13-cent increase for the National Per Capita Tax, and a 3-cent increase for the Organizing Fund. The new National Per Capita Tax for Transitional Employees will be $5.91 per member per pay period, plus an additional 36 cents for the Organizing Fund. Therefore, a total of $6.27 will be withheld for the National Per Capita Tax and the Organizing Fund.

Any local or state organization wishing to absorb all or part of the dues increase must notify the Per Capita Department in writing at 1300 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005, or Fax: 202-216-2650, no later than March 2, 2007. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Executive Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer Gary Parrish at 202-842-8505.
