On March 27, Oregon Senator Jeffrey Merkley issued a letter of commendation and appreciation to the members of the APWU stating, “I want to take a moment to thank you for your efforts keeping the mail moving and our communities connected…Your service is foundational to our country, critical to our daily lives, and what enables people to stay home as we fight this pandemic together.”

Senator Merkley closed his letter with, “During these difficult times and always, please know that you have my full support and appreciation.”

During times of turbulence, one thing remains ever-steady: the service postal workers provide to our nation from coast-to-coast and beyond.

We all know the saying, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night.” But what 2020 has proven is that the United States Postal Service provides its essential services through in all conditions. Mail and parcels are processed and delivered through snow, through rain, through heat, through blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wild fires and now through an unprecedented global pandemic.

Postal workers are keeping our economy moving, providing medicine and medical supplies to those in dire need, and providing comforts to our communities while many shelter-in-place.

Postal workers are essential front-line public servants and it does not go unnoticed.

Congressional appreciation is well-deserved today and every single day.
