September & October Industrial Relations Training

Due to the APWU’s focus on Labor2020 initiatives,  the Industrial Relations webinar on an employee’s rights under to use leave under the FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Recovery Act) has been changed to November 5, 2020 at 3 pm. Anyone who previously registered is still registered for this webinar and has been sent an email with the updated schedule. This will be focused on how the FFCRA leave provisions related to postal employees. We will discuss the Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL)—how you can use it and how much you will be paid. We will also discuss the expanded FMLA provisions for that allow employees to take time to care for their children due to school closures, remote learning, and day care closing. We will also discuss the types of situations you can use the leave, when you might be able to be paid Administrative Leave, and other aspects of the law. The Industrial Relations Department will be holding a series of Webinars during the months of September and October for national and local leaders, stewards, support staff, and members. Four webinars will be held on the following topics:

•    September 23, 2020 3:00 pm--Using ZOOM for Local Negotiations
•    September 24, 2020 3:00 pm--The Basics of APWU Search (Lexis Nexis)
•    September 30, 2020 3:00 pm—The Basics of Electronic Grievance System (EGS) 
•    October 8, 2020 3:00 pm—Using Leave Under the FFCRA

All webinars will be held via ZOOM. All attendees will need to have ZOOM downloaded to their computer to participate or the ZOOM app installed on their mobile/smart device prior to joining the webinars.

Using ZOOM for Local Negotiations

On September 23, 2020 at 3:00 pm EST, the Industrial Relations Department will be hosting a webinar on how a local could use ZOOM to conduct local negotiations. The training will consist reviewing how to set up a meeting, setting up waiting rooms, how to create and use additional meeting or “caucus” rooms, screen sharing, exchanging documents, basic settings, and the difference between the “licensed” and “free” ZOOM accounts. This training is designed for local presidents or their designees (chief spokespersons, staff who may be moderating/setting up the meetings). Please click here to register for the webinar. The Basics of APWU Search

On September 24, 2020 at 3:00 pm EST, the Industrial Relations Department will be hosting a webinar on the basics of APWU SEARCH (LexisNexis). APWU SEARCH is the national and regional arbitration database. Arbitration advocates can use the cases found in the database to bolster their arbitration cases. Stewards and officers can use the knowledge they learn from reading arbitrations to develop even better grievances at step-1 and step-2. The webinar will cover how to get access, logging in, setting up your browser, doing basic and more advanced searches. Please click here to register for the webinar. The Basics of Electronic Grievance Systems (EGS)

On September 30, 2020 at 3:00 pm EST, the Industrial Relations Department will be hosting a webinar on the Electronic Grievance System (EGS). The webinar will last approximately one hour with a question and answer period at the end of the presentation. The webinar will cover the basics of EGS, entering a grievance, sending a grievance to management, and reports you can generate in EGS. Please click here to register for the webinar now.
