Statement by President Dimondstein on
06/21/2018 - The White House proposal on restructuring the federal government released today, “Delivering Government Solutions in the 21st Century,” delivered nothing but misinformation and, if implemented, would end regular mail and package services at an affordable cost to 157 million addresses every day. Furthermore, the White House plan is an attack on many federal agencies and the public services they provide.
Eliminating the universal service obligation, as the plan suggests, would hurt business and individuals alike, and would be a dagger aimed at the heart of rural America and undermine e-commerce.
06/08/2018 - APWU met with the White House Task Force on the Postal Service on Tuesday, June 6 and presented a series of recommendations and supporting materials on how the USPS could improve services, become more financially stable, and continue to remain a treasured public institution offering universal service to all citizens, regardless of where they live or work.

On Nov. 8, APWU Des Moines Area Local and the Des Moines BMC Local (Iowa) held an informational picket in front of the downtown processing and distribution center to send a resounding message to postal management: Postal Workers Want First-Class Service for the People!
11/13/2017 - The following is an op-ed by President Mark Dimondstein and Des Moines Area APWU Local 44 President Mike Bates that originally appeared in Des Moines' Register on Nov. 9.
The United States Postal Service belongs to all the people. Its valuable mission is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and mandated in legislation to “provide postal services to bind the Nation together” and to “provide prompt, reliable and efficient services to patrons in all areas.”
Incredibly, the USPS provides universal service six days a week to 156 million addresses and extensive Sunday package delivery. Postal services are provided no matter who we are or where we live – at reasonable rates – without the use of any taxpayer dollars.
07/27/2017 - Following strong resistance from the APWU – and the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMHU) – USPS management agreed to a five-month delay in implementing forced reassignments and excessing of employees out of their installations.

APWU President Urged Panel to Adopt Postal Planks
07/05/2016 - The Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee has endorsed the public Postal Service and approved measures that were advocated by the APWU.
In a draft of the party’s platform, released on July 1, the committee recommended nearly all the postal planks outlined by President Mark Dimondstein in a presentation to the committee on June 9.
