11/20/2018 - Our current Collective Bargaining Agreement (union contract) initially expired on September 20, 2018. The APWU and the U.S. Postal Service agreed to extend negotiations until October 20th after which the parties again extended negotiations until November 20th. During that period the APWU and the Postal Service engaged in a series of negotiating sessions.
The APWU believes recent negotiations have been fruitful and we have made progress towards a framework of an agreement.
In that light, the APWU and the USPS have agreed to continue our negotiating efforts until December 7th.
11/13/2018 - Reminder, in accordance with Article 8, sections 4 and 5, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, penalty overtime rules are not applicable for a consecutive four-week period each year during December.
This year, the December period begins December 1, 2018 (Pay Period 25-18- Week 2) and ends December 28, 2018 (Pay Period 01-19- Week 1).

As the parties reached the Sept. 20th contract deadline, the USPS proposals submitted at the Motor Vehicle Service (MVS) table were by far the most regressive demands in negotiations.
MVS Craft Officers expected the postal proposals would attempt to extract years of our bargaining history, achievements, and protections, but the Article 39 and 32 USPS demands went far beyond those expectations.
10/20/2018 - APWU President Mark Dimondstein has announced that the union and the Postal Service again agreed to extend negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement for an additional 30 days until November 20, 2018.

The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) are in the process of contract negotiations. It is no secret that MVS faces very challenging times during this round of negotiations. The USPS, inspired by the White House, is pushing an agenda of privatization and trying to turn middle class jobs into part-time positions.
The Postal Service will advance an agenda of cheap labor called “efficiency” in an attempt to extract concessions from many years of bargaining between the parties. Postal management’s agenda is to duplicate the business models of Wal-Mart, Target, UPS and other for-profit corporations that have little regard for hourly employees. In this model of corporate greed, many benefits achieved by the APWU over the years – such as a 40-hour work week, penalty overtime, and scheduled off days – could become a thing of the past. Although the APWU MVS Division has submitted numerous proposals, we have yet to receive any proposals from the USPS, so we are virtually negotiating with ourselves. On top of that, our current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires on September 20.
National Negotiations Update
09/21/2018 - APWU President Mark Dimondstein has announced that the union and the Postal Service have agreed to extend negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement for 30 days.
Our current union contract between the American Postal Workers Union and the United States Postal Service covers the wages, hours and working conditions of 200,000 postal workers. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement expired Thursday, September 20, 2018...
All the rights, benefits and provisions of our existing union contract remain in place, and are fully enforceable during the 30-day extension of negotiations.

09/13/2018 - When the USPS made changes to Chapters 5 and 7 of the Postal Operations Manual (POM) in 1995, APWU challenged the changes as not fair, reasonable, and equitable.
08/19/2018 - On Aug. 19 and 20, APWU craft divisions – Clerk, Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Service, Support Services – and retirees held conferences. The ongoing contract negotiations was a topic on everyone’s mind.
08/13/2018 - The APWU and the Postal Service have agreed to a moratorium on grievances, disciplinary actions and arbitration hearings at the national, regional, state and local levels from Aug. 13 until Aug. 27 due to the 2018 APWU Biennial Convention, Industrial Relations Director Vance Zimmerman has announced. The period spans a total of 15 days.
