U.S. Postal Service Needs Financial Aid to Provide Service for Safe, Fair Elections in 2020

WASHINGTON  – Mark Dimondstein, president of the American Postal Workers Union, will testify before the Elections Subcommittee of the U.S. House Administration Committee today, June 11 at 1 pm on: “The Impact of COVID-19 on Voting Rights and Election Administration: Ensuring Safe and Fair Elections.”

Dimondstein, representing 200,000 postal workers, who are providing essential services during the current pandemic, will explain that the USPS is facing a crisis due the sharp reduction in the volume of mail due to COVID-19 and the current economic downturn.  In order to ensure the service needed for fair and safe elections in 2020, the USPS needs an emergency appropriation of $25 billion, in addition to immediate and unconditional access to a $10 billion line of credit provided for in the CARES Act.

Public access to today’s virtual hearing is available at the Committee on Administration’s website and social media channels.
