Fourteen locals and three retiree chapters will be rewarded for generating high levels of participation in the recent election of national union officers, Secretary-Treasurer Liz Powell has announced. The top locals and retiree chapters in several size categories will receive prizes, and any local or chapter that achieved a voting level of 100 percent will be rewarded. To be eligible for rewards, locals and chapters must have achieved participation of at least 50 percent. The winnings are to be used at the discretion of the locals and retiree chapters on behalf of the membership. Two locals in the category of 500-999 members generated participation of more than 50 percent and will receive rewards. They are: Local Participation Reward Lehigh Valley Area Local (PA) 62% $2,000 Trenton Metro Area Local (NJ) 58% $2,000 Three locals in the category of 100-499 members qualified for rewards. They are: Local Participation Reward Philadelphia BMC Local (PA) 69% $1,000 Heart of Illinois Area Local (IL) 59% $1,000 Lancaster Area Local (PA) 53% $1,000 In the category of 1-99 members, nine locals will receive rewards, including seven locals that had 100 percent participation. They are: Local Participation Reward Colby Local (KS) 100% $200 Woodward Local (OK) 100% $200 Kewanee Local (IL) 100% $200 Radcliff Local (KY) 100% $200 Manhattan Local (KS) 100% $200 Pagosa Springs Local (CO) 100% $200 Manitowoc (WI) 100% $200 Kent Local (WA) 91% $200 Anderson Local (SC) 89% $200 Three retiree chapters will receive prizes, one in the 1-99 category and two in the two in the 100-499 category. BMC Retiree Chapter (PA) 57% $200 Heart of Illinois Retiree Chapter 57% $1,000 Flint Retiree Chapter (MI) 56% $1,000 There were no locals or chapters with more than 1,000 members that qualified. “Congratulations to the locals and retiree chapters that achieved a high level of participation,” Powell said. “Voter turnout overall was extremely low, so we must continue to encourage all members to take part in union activities.”
