Public Affairs Group Honors APWU TV Ad

An APWU-sponsored TV commercial that decried the negative effects of Postal Service consolidation plans has won a “Pollie Award” from the American Association of Political Consultants.

Broadcast in select cities in the last half of 2006, the 30-second TV commercial — running in conjunction with radio ads — informed citizens and community leaders about the Postal Service’s network realignment proposals.

The ads ran in cities where APWU activists had already taken steps to inform citizens about the negative effects that USPS consolidation plans would have on mail service for individual postal customers and small businesses.

The 16th Annual Pollie Awards, announced in February, recognize achievement in the political and public affairs arena. The APWU ad won a “Silver Pollie” in the Issue Advocacy category, which honors “Television ads produced for an independent committee or organization for the purpose of advocating a position” in relation to a public affairs campaign.

The American Association of Political Consultants, founded in 1969, is a bipartisan organization of more than 1,000 members, including political consultants, media consultants, pollsters, campaign managers, corporate public affairs officers, academics, fund-raisers, lobbyists, congressional staffers and vendors.
