APWU members are reminded that entries for the union’s creativity contest for their children and grandchildren are due by June 30.

Sponsored by the American Postal Workers Union, the contest is designed to promote among our youth a better understanding of the vital role unions and the APWU play in our lives. Contestants are invited to submit an original work expressing this theme in one of the following formats:

  • Video/DVD movie of five minutes or less;
  • Song (recorded on CD) of five minutes or less;
  • Poem — 200 words or less;
  • PowerPoint presentation — 25 slides or less.

The contest coincides with the union’s 2008 Women’s Organizing Campaign, whose theme is, “Make It a Family Affair.” But the contest is not limited to new members or to women — it is, after all, about family.

Eligibility

Contestants must be the children or grandchildren of a member in good standing of the American Postal Workers Union or the APWU Retirees Department, or of a deceased member of the APWU. (The children and grandchildren of APWU national officers and staff are ineligible.) Judging of the submissions will be among two age groups: 12-14 year olds and 15-18 year olds.

Submissions must be received by June 30, 2008, and should be sent to:

“Organizing is Our Future —
Make it a Family Affair”
Att: Contest
American Postal Workers Union
1300 L Street NW
Washington, DC 20005

Winners will be announced in July.
